Mahogany
Mountain Vineyard and Winery is a small, family-owned and operated winery
specializing in limited production
of handcrafted premium Barbera, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Mourvedre,
Petit Verdot, Syrah
and Zinfandel. Our vineyards are located on 43 acres in a picturesque and
sunny high valley (1,500 ft. elevation) in Ramona, California
surrounded by mountains. Our microclimate is perfect for growing
red wine grapes and dry-farming: hot long summer days and cool nights produce
beautifully ripe fruits with deep intense flavors.
Our wine-making techniques include hand-picked and organically
grown grapes, small bin fermentation, hand
punch-down of caps, hand press and aging in small oak
barrels. We take great pride in every aspect of grape-growing
and wine-making to ensure the quality of our handcrafted estate
wines.
Our
philosophy is to grow grapes and make wines with as little impact on
our surroundings as possible and live in harmony with the nature
around us.
Our
farming and wine making practices follow a basic principle of
maintaining a balanced and healthy environment in which we live.
In
1996, we started making wine on premises using locally grown
grapes. In 1997, we planted our own vineyards with Cabernet
Sauvignon, Merlot, Mourvedre and Zinfandel varietals. Since then, we expanded
our vineyard to add Barbera, Petit Verdot and Syrah to our collection of red wine varietals.
On
January 6, 2006, the Ramona Valley was designated as an American
Viticultural Area by the Federal Taxation and Trade Bureau.
